My Cup Overflows
A devotional from Undeserved Favor Ministry inspired by the preaching "In The Presence of Your Enemies"

"My cup overflows."
Psalm 23:5
In royal banquets of the ancient world, an overflowing cup was a sign of abundance and favor. A king would ensure that his honored guests never had an empty cup—refilling it again and again to demonstrate his generosity. When David wrote, “My cup overflows,” he was expressing the reality of God’s lavish provision.
Historically, kings like Solomon exemplified this kind of abundance. His kingdom was marked by unparalleled prosperity, and those who dined at his table experienced continual provision. But while earthly riches can fade, David knew that God’s blessings were limitless. He wasn’t just talking about material wealth—he was speaking of spiritual abundance, joy, and the overflowing grace of God.
This concept finds its fulfillment in Jesus. On the night before His crucifixion, He lifted a cup and said, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood.” Through His suffering, He offered us a cup of salvation that will never run dry. His sacrifice secured an eternal overflow of mercy, grace, and love.
Our brother in Christ shares this testimony:
I was hospitalized due to a problem with my gallbladder. During my hospitalization, instead of focusing on my healing, I was more worried about how I would pay my hospital bills. I didn’t have enough savings, and fear consumed me. Even as I felt pain in my chest and stomach, my mind was occupied with financial anxiety. That’s when I turned to prayer and took communion in the hospital, reminding myself of God's promises.
The word in Psalm 91:5-6 reminded me of what I have in Christ as it says:
"You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday."
When the doctor declared me stable and said I could go home, relief washed over me, but so did fear. I had no idea how we would settle the bill. Yet, I held on to the truth that I am blessed and loved by our Abba, Father—He would not leave me.
As we searched for ways to pay, a friend of my mother told us about seeking assistance from the Government assistance program. My mother went there, and soon after, she called me with incredible news—a Government assistance program would cover all my hospital bills. The moment I heard this, I couldn’t stop thanking Jesus. He had provided in ways I never expected.
Beloved, God doesn’t give just enough—He gives more than enough. His provision is not limited to what we can see but extends to every area of our lives. When we walk with Him, our cup will always overflow, not just for our sake, but so we can pour into others. So drink deeply of His goodness, trust in His abundance, and let His blessings overflow in and through you!
